SUP Club Summer 2019
We have a new programme of activities for our stand up paddleboarders this summer, providing more chances to get out on the water.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays we will focus on race fitness training. We will publish the training plan for each week on Facebook and we will also have a copy available in the clubhouse. You are welcome to come in the morning from 06:00 to 09:00 and complete the training program independently. The group evening session will start at 18:30 but you are welcome to come down earlier and get going. These sessions will not be staff led but we may join in when available. There will be three levels of training plans each week, bronze, silver and gold to suit all abilities.
Wednesdays will be relaxed river paddling trips. We will be launching from the lake at 18:30 and the trip will last roughly 90 minutes. There will be hire equipment available for these sessions which is done on a first come first served basis. To attend these sessions, you need to be a competent stand up paddleboarder.
The 1st Wednesday of every month we will be our social night heading down to the pub or a having a BBQ at Bray Lake after the session which we hope you will join us for.
We are also going to be running a time trial session once a month, so keep a lookout for more information on this.
Our Sunday morning sessions 10am – 12pm will continue as normal with a mixture of races, River Thames trips, litter picks and skill sessions.

SUP Summer Race Series
There is a NEW format for the SUP Club Summer Race Series!
The Finer Details
Taking inspiration from marathon kayaking we are going to trial a division-based system for our summer race series. Racers will be split between 5 divisions, which are determined by the time you complete a 2km time trial. This means that you will be racing against people that go at roughly the same pace as you, regardless of board type, age or gender.
As normal, to get a series finish you will need to complete 3 out of 5 races and must race on the same board throughout the series. Significant changes to your equipment mid-season may mean a requirement to re-do your time trial and a change of division.
Before registering for the series, you will need to complete a 2km time trial. This can either be done at Bray Lake or independently.
For Race 1 the divisions will be as follows,
Division 1 – 13:29 and under
Division 2 – 13:30 – 14:59
Division 3 – 15:00 – 16:29
Division 4 – 16:30 – 17:59
Division 5 – 18:00 and over
This is the time that you complete a 2km time trial on the board you will be using for the series. After the first race we will review these times and may then make some changes for the remainder of the series. After Race 1 you will stay in the same division for the rest of the series.
This is a trial, so we are not expecting it to all be smooth paddling, but this will highlight any issues with the system and if everyone likes the system it will allow us to make alterations on future races. As a trial we would also love to hear your feedback about how this system works. If it doesn’t work, we will return to the traditional format for the winter series.
If you are based at a club other than Bray Lake, each club will be able to hold their own time trial in order to set their own club paddlers' times.

There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at the end of each race, as well as for overall winners if you participate in more than 3 out of the 5 races for your division.
